Chris' Tech Notes: "The bike itself is muffler pipe bent to our specs, with bike components brazed to it. She has a 16-inch front tire and a 20-inch rear wheel and racing corn cob tire. She has 21 gears. The bike weighs 32 lbs and the foam and fiberglass shell weighs 15 lbs. This is our current machine and it works!!!. A middle aged- man can cruise at speeds between 19 to 21 mph. Clearly the lowness and reduced frontal area translates to less drag and higher speeds." Text and Photos Copyright 1998, Chris Spollen

Chris Spollen is a talented graphic artist. In his spare time, he likes to see how fast he can go in the human-powered hot rods he builds. If you've cruised through the IHPVA site, you've probably noticed that most of those guys don't worry too much about the aesthetics of their machines. It's nice to see that Chris doesn't leave his design sensibilities behind when he steps into the garage. |
